Taking wine can be a show of class and respect, yet it is a good recipe for the heart. With the volume of wine bottles, people are consuming every day, it is ironic that most people are taking it wrong.

That sounds strange, but is a fact; people make the same huge mistake. They go to the wine shop, buy a bottle of Cabernet or Syrah, and take it home, pop the cork and sit on a couch to sip. Little did they know that they are not getting the best out of their red wine; the problem is the same; they serve the red wine warm.

Add little ice to lower the wine’s temperature before opening the cork

The right temperature for red wine

Don’t feel awkward, if you have been taking red wine warm all your life, most people take red wine too warm. The problem is, most wine drinkers do not know the right temperature for red wine.

The ideal temperature is between 60–65 degrees Fahrenheit. At this temperature, the wine texture will be at full glare expression and the flavors of the content will be fresh and sharp.

If you have your wine above the expected temperature, and you are considering bringing it down to the temperature in the cellar, the following tips may be just what you need.

Try refrigeration

Put the bottle of wine in the fridge for 15 minutes, avoid the temptation of using the freezer, the temperature change may be too much for a short while and it will not be able to get the ideal wine temperature of between 60–65 degrees Fahrenheit, that you will find in most cellars in Europe.

Use a chiller

Most wine shops are equipped with wine chillers to a moderate temperature of the white wine, but those chillers can work on the red, as well. The trick is, do not allow the wine to stay for long in the chiller so that the temperature will not fall way too low and damage the wine’s texture in the process.

Custom wine cooler

They come with several temperature zones, for both reds and whites. They function the same way the cellar does, although they are not underground, moist, and spiders fill. They come in varying sizes from those that can take a dozen bottles to those big enough to take hundreds of bottles.

Sink some ice cubes

Sounds strange, but if you plop few ice cubes into the wine and remove it after a minute or two, you will succeed in lowering the temperature of the wine without having to dilute the content much. This should be the last resort when other options are not available.

Plop it on iced bath

Fill the ice bucket with ice and appropriate water. Add some salt later. It will chill the wine in less than ten minutes. To prevent the wine from getting too cold, test the temperature by touching the bottle regularly.

Spice up your red wine experience, serve the next bottle chilled and savor the freshness and texture of red wine in a way befitting only the Royals.
